Hire remote developers
Hire remote developers who are actually good at working remotely: a fixed daily overlap with your hours, clear written updates, and a habit of moving work forward on the board and in pull requests rather than waiting for a meeting.
Monthly per person for ongoing work with a person embedded in your team; hourly for scoped or occasional work. Either way the working pattern is the same: a few hours of live overlap, the rest async.
Remote only works when the person on the other end writes things down. The engineers we place leave a comment that explains the why, not just the what; they raise a blocker in writing the moment it appears instead of sitting on it until the next call; and they keep the pull request small enough to review properly.
The overlap is set before the engagement starts, usually three to five hours of your working day, which is enough for a standup, review and pairing. The rest of their day runs against your board, so you often wake up to progress rather than questions.
They work in your tools, GitHub or GitLab, Jira or Linear, Slack, and follow your pull-request and release process. Behind them sits an Upforce lead for code review and cover, so a sick day or a holiday does not stall your roadmap.

Less than you expect if the basics are in place: a shared board, a daily standup in the overlap window, and pull requests instead of "it is done, trust me". The developer writes progress down so you are not chasing status. The Upforce lead is there if you want a second opinion on pace or direction.
Three to five hours a day, agreed up front. For US Eastern that is typically your morning; for US Pacific, your early morning; for the UK and Europe, most of your afternoon. Enough for live collaboration; the rest is async.
Small, frequent pull requests and a short written end-of-day note. If a day goes by with neither, that is your signal to raise it, and the lead is your escalation point.
We would rather find that out in the first two weeks. If it is genuinely not workable we adjust the developer schedule where we can, or end the engagement with the standard notice and no argument.
Usually meaningfully less than a local senior hire, once you account for recruitment, benefits and the risk of a bad permanent hire. We quote a firm rate for your specific need within 48 hours.
